A bench + a pop of color = a vibrant, easy summer!featured
Who doesn’t love a good bench?
In the summer, it’s fun to keep it simple. (I’ve heard.) And there are few simpler pleasures than chilling on a bench and soaking up the not-indoors-ness.
Also simple? Giving something a quick coat of paint for a big impact. (Pops of color and summer are besties, by the by.)
So, we inherited this really cool vintage cribbage bench. (“Keely,” I hear you saying. “You + cribbage is a logical pairing, too!” I KNOW, right?)
Anyhow, we happened to have this super cute bench but it happened to have dents and scratches and at least one rather loose leg.
Still super cute, though.
But you know what else I happened to have? A can of this teensy-tiny powerhouse Krylon spray paint (in Red Pepper, of course). It’s called Short Cuts, you guys. I adore smallish things and I will straight-up high five anything that gets me an actual short cut.
And after a quick wipe-down, an even quicker coat of paint (and a quick siesta), and then the barest of touch-ups, followed-up with an easy tightening of the errant leg (like, I literally twisted it clockwise with my hand) and- most importantly- stickable non-scuff pads for the bottoms of this bad boy?
Boom. Easy, shabby-chic cheer…that just so happens to a) complement our backyard furniture and b) provide trim seating on our narrow back deck!
FYI, if you’re unused to the whole “spray painting” thing, there is definitely going to be a part of the process where a) it looks patchy, b) you wonder if you’re standing too close/too far, and c) you question everything.
This is normal. Stay the course.
Because spray painting is a pretty darned forgiving medium, and the end result is pretty darned satisfying for less than an hour’s worth of work.
(Most importantly, the cribbage holes are intact, in case/when we play a heated match of cribbage. Which is totally a thing.)
